How to Pick a Summer CampEven though you’re a parent who enjoys their children, you need a break sometimes. Summer camp is the perfect opportunity to get rid of your kids for a week, or more, without having any guilt. They’re going to be hanging out with other kids their age, and having a good old time. When you are thinking about a summer camp for your kid, you can make sure they have a great time by being selective in the camps, what they offer, where they are, and how much they cost. In the end, everyone can be happy with the choice you’ve made. What Your Kid LikesThinking for a moment, what does your child like to do with their free time? This will often help to inform the camp choices you have. For example, if your kid likes to play a certain sport, it might be a better idea for them to attend a certain sport camp. If they like to play an instrument, then they might be better off at a camp with that as the focus. Just make sure that you are choosing a camp that your child likes, not a camp with activities that you hope your child will begin to like. Talk with your child about what they might like to do while they are away from you. This way, they’re not going to come home mad at you. Location, Location, LocationIt’s also a good idea to begin to think about where your child might be spending their summer camp. You might want to have a camp choice be something that will be in town and just a day program. That way, a younger child can come home at night. But for older children, you might want to send them away to an actual camp with cabins or tents. It’s up to what you think your child is going to be able to handle and what they are going to enjoy. Most of the time, children under 8 should go to camps only for part of the day, while older children can have more independence. The Cost of Sending Your Kid AwayYes, you’re not made of money, even if it seems completely worth it to use your cash to send your kid away for a bit. When looking at summer camps, you need to look at the price of the lodging as well as of any other options that your child may want to have – i.e. certain activities, equipment, etc. Choosing a camp with a reasonable price will ensure that you aren’t worried about paying for their new school clothes when they get back. Summer camps are a great way to give your child a chance to be away from you for a bit – and you could use the break too. Sometimes, you just need to be apart in order to be ready for the new school year and all the togetherness you will endure together. |
